Sheikh Hasina Wajid Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Brief biography: Early Life and Education Sheikh Hasina Wajid was born on September 28, 1947, in Tungipara, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). She is the eldest of five children to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh, and Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib. Hasina studied at the University of Dhaka, graduating with a degree in psychology in 1973. She later earned a master's degree in education from the same university. Political Career Hasina's entry into politics was marked by tragedy when her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was assassinated in 1975. She spent years in exile, returning to Bangladesh in 1981 to lead the Awami League, her father's political party. Hasina became the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the first time in 1996, serving until 2001.
